Reactivating Dormant CRM Contacts Through Strategic, Segmented Nurture Campaigns
Developing a segmented nurture strategy to re-engage existing contacts and turn an underutilized CRM database into a growth opportunity.

The Challenge
A B2B company had accumulated a significant CRM database through years of customer relationships, sales conversations, and marketing activity. But many of those contacts were no longer being actively nurtured, and there was no clear strategy for determining which audiences represented the strongest opportunities for re-engagement.
The opportunity wasn’t simply to email dormant contacts. It was to understand who was in the database, where they were in their relationship with the company, and which approach was most likely to restart a meaningful conversation.
The Approach
I developed a segmentation strategy based on factors including previous touchpoints with the company, geographic location, customer status, and historical engagement.
These signals were used to identify distinct audiences and determine how, and whether, each should be approached. Messaging and campaign paths could then reflect the context of the existing relationship rather than treating the entire database as a single audience.
The Work
I translated the segmentation strategy into a series of targeted campaigns and automated nurture workflows, with messaging and calls to action tailored to different contact groups.
This created a more systematic approach to CRM activation: identifying high-potential segments, matching them with relevant messaging, monitoring engagement, and creating pathways for interested contacts to move back into active sales conversations.
The Outcome
The strategy generated renewed engagement among previously inactive contacts and demonstrated the value of the company’s existing database as a growth channel.
Most importantly, the campaigns contributed to an uptick in sales calls booked, turning existing CRM relationships into new opportunities for the business.
